This product wouldn't have been bad if it consistently worked and they didn't charge you for technical support. It may work fine for awhile though, and then Sling does a firmware update that ruins your Slingbox... and if you want technical support on fixing the problem, they will charge you $30. Outrageous! I won't buy another Sling product again.

Got turned on by a friend who suggested, since I travel for a living, checking out this product. I am an avid technology user and make sure I know what I'm buying is well worth it. However, the reviews astound me in that almost every one mentions customer service and pay for service extras. What does Sony Blu Ray player mean in the list of supported devices?? How vague is that... i'm afraid to buy the Pro HD thinking when I get it, there will be no support!! Is Sling Media reading these reviews?? Because I'm not buying until the "bad service" reviews subside.. Hasta la vista...

Before you decide to buy this product, try to call their support line and see if you are able to get through it. If not, that is a bad sign, which was what I got.

As of August 2010, apparently Slingbox has been doing system upgrades which have made it not only impossible to use the product, but they have also been very slow to respond with any kind of fix for these serious and apparently insurmountable technical problems. Unfortunately it appears at present that it is a 'customer-be-damned' policy that is in effect. Anyone considering purchasing a Slingbox product should think carefully about it and read the user forums on the Sling website before buying anything! Currently there are many, many people all experiencing the same problems with no resolution in site. If they can get these problems fixed, which so far have been going on for almost a month, their product might be worthy of looking at, but at present, tread carefully before spending money!!

I bought it & set it up in no time......


BUT.......

My cable box is not properly supported. It lists my box, even shows an exact replica of my remote but almost none of the buttons work. It was not a problem with the IR placement because the INFO button worked.

I contacted support, the first agent disconnected me when he asked to put me on hold.

I called back. Spent over 30 minutes with another agent. He eventually remote connected into my laptop to configure my slingbox pro HD. He admitted if for any reason the slingbox was reset, it would lose this setup & I would have to call back again for support. After 90 days they charge for support!

After he manually configured the slingbox for my cable box Comcast Cisco RNG200 - It then displayed a generic remote which was able to change channels etc. But just as he wanted to end the call, I asked him how to play a show that was recorded by on my DVR. He didn't know. He said it SHOULD work and I would have to PLAY with the remote. There is no button on his GENERIC remote to play my recorded shows.

This slingbox doesn't properly support my Cable Box/ DVR so I am returning it.

I called Monsoon about their HAVA Platinum HD. They confirmed that it supports my DVR and that the remote will work so I am buying it. Looks like it is less money too!
