IT'S A PIECE July 11, 2010 Don't bother with this if you want a power supply that will last. As the title suggests- It's a Piece! broke after 2 months. We have gone through 4 of the low cost replacement units from various sellers over the past 2 years.
Pay the money and buy the newer technology version with a 3 year warranty. It has a long cord and a power light to indicate it is working too. You will save in the end.
DOES NOT WORK April 27, 2010 I ordered 4 of these for the school I work for to replace broken power adapters for some old Apple G4 Ibooks in our computer lab. I received exactly what was in the picture and it shipped on time. The problem is that they didn't work at all. They are a white power brick with a black cord that is supposed to plug in to the side. The plug doesn't fit into its socket on the brick, when I tried to press it in I heard a cracking noise and was afraid to try and press it any further in. There was a blob of black plastic stuck to one of the prongs on the power cord that I had to pry off before I could plug the cord in to the wall socket. The power brick and cords are made of light, cheap plastic and feel flimsy. When I finally got the black power cord (sort of) connected and plugged the adapter into the wall the green light lit up on the power brick but none of our Ibooks would charge when they were plugged in. They all charge immediately when I plug in a real Apple brand power charger.
Luckily, these items were "fulfilled by Amazon" meaning I was able to call Amazon and return them for a full refund. The only good part of the experience was the customer service provided by Amazon.
These are extremely cheap, shoddy pieces of plastic trash. Don't waste your money.
Defective April 20, 2010 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mine was defective -- light came on, but it did not charge. I took it to a local computer store to make sure it wasn't my computer that was the problem, and their chargers worked. I sent it back and received a prompt refund. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes...
Would buy again April 15, 2010 Works great, just like my Apple brand charger did (before I lost it). My only complaint, and why I gave it 4/5 stars, is that the cord is a bit short. At this price though ($18) I really can't complain.
Fake and flimsy April 14, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I suppose I should have figured from the price but nowhere did this hint that it was a knock-off. At first I thought it was no big deal - as long as it charged my laptop I wasn't too fussed about the brand (though I was annoyed that wasn't made plain) - but after only 4 months it started falling apart. The outer metal ring of the part that goes into the computer kept separating and wouldn't charge when it didn't meet. I used a pair of pliers to gently squeeze it back together several times but it would separate again within a few days. After about a month of that I tried to squeeze it back together again, like usual, and a bit of the metal was apparently very brittle and chipped off and it has not worked since. I think it may have even damaged my laptop. I never write extremely bad reviews because I always assume they are just cases of sour grapes but I was just so disgusted by the shoddy quality of this charger - it may be cheaper than the genuine product but it wasn't that cheap and it only lasted 5 months. It's worth the extra bucks to get a good one. (the cord is also significantly shorter than the apple one)
