I got this item in January 2008 and in less than a year it started to give problems. I kinda just forgot about it and moved on without coming back to Amazon, but I think other customers should know what to experience. The end of the adapter which is plugged into the computer started to give problems in terms of not charging. I had to wedge it against the wall or books in order for it to work until I just gave up. This was my second charger. Since then I tried a Generic charger which worked for a while. I just bought another one today but hope I get the best out of it. If I do, or don't I will share my reviews.
As for this adapter however, I STRONGLY recommend that you not buy it.

With this lousy product, HP has you. I'M ON MY THIRD REPLACEMENT ADAPTER & IT LOOKS LIKE HP, WHO IS OUT TO BUY THE WORLD OUT, WANTS TO FORCE ME TO BUY A NEW LAPTOP FROM THEM INSTEAD. These pieces of junk keep failing after only a few months or so. I'm giving up. OK, OK HP - I'll buy a new computer, but NEVER, NEVER from HP again.

Has been two months now and all is well. Only gets light usage as this is a second power cord for home. Once or twice a week. More than what I needed. (did not need the smart adapter) This was the direct replacement to what came with my HP laptop. Connection is tight. Never had any problems.
